She felt this was necessary in order to get interest from politicians to adopt measures to combat global warming. Swedish media caught Thunbergs protest, and the message spread. Fridays for Future protests were led by thousands of young people across the globe. Climate activists all over the world took part in their efforts to organize the Global Strike for Climate. The strike was hugely successful with over 1.6 million people from over 125 countries participated.
